Research and Performance Support (RPS) hosted the second annual Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region Research
Showcase on June 13 at the Conexus Arts Centre. The goal
of this half-day event was to increase awareness and
recognition of research and knowledge exchange
activities occurring within the RQHR. Over 120 staff,
residents, interns, and external affiliates were in
attendance.
Attendees were treated to a day of poster viewing (a
total of 46 research posters were contributed this
year), and podium presentations from local researchers,
highlighting some of the most innovative research within
the Region. Showcase 2008 also included award
presentations, networking reception, and a keynote
address from Mr. Irving Gold.
Mr. Irving Gold, Vice President for Government Relations
and External Affairs for the Association of Faculties of
Medicine of Canada, spoke about current trends in
research. In his address, he touched on the importance
of knowledge dissemination and knowledge exchange
brokering, arguing that the use of knowledge brokers to
facilitate the dissemination research can reduce mutual
mistrust between policy makers and researchers. As
research funding becomes progressively more difficult
to obtain, and its distribution is determined by federal
priorities, it is crucial for researchers to make the
knowledge acquired through research accessible to
the policy makers who determine these priorities.
