The
Canadian Clinical Neuro-Technology
Research Unit.
Who We Are:
We research new technology and bring them into the clinical
practice and teaching of Neurosciences. Our offices are at the Regina
General Hospital, Canada.
Current Projects:
- The DICOM server. DICOM files of Regina Health District patients (Angiograms,
CTs, MRI) are transmitted to a central server which can be accessed from the
O.R. and the ward.
- Neurosurgical Rounds held over the Internet every two months or so in
which neurosurgeons gather at an appointed time and discuss specific cases
over the Internet. This site is located at http://www.medi-fax.com/rounds
- A web directory of Canadian neurologists at http://www.medi-fax.com/neurologists
- A web based atlas of neurosurgical conditions in which neurosurgeons
across North America contribute cases for inclusion in the web based
electronic "book" at http://www.medi-fax.com/atlas
- Health Information Center in which information on neurosciences topics are
made available for Canadian patients at http://www.medi-fax.com/health_info
- Think First web pages in which information about prevention of spinal cord
and brain injury is provided at http://www.medi-fax.com/thinkfirst
- Regina Health District related sites at http://www.medi-fax.com/rhd
- A web directory of Canadian hospitals http://www.medi-fax.com/hospitals
- A web directory of Canadian medical societies, organizations and medical
schools at http://www.medi-fax.com/medical
- South Saskatchewan Stroke Prevention and Management Unit web site at http://www.medi-fax.com/stroke
- Voice technology lab for spinal cord injury patients.
Projects Under Development:
- MEDI-FAX "MY CASE CARD." Portable mini CDs developed for
patients. It will contain a summary of their cases including CT, MRI
and Angiogram images.
- DICOM file National Database. Many Saskatchewan patients travel to
other provinces to obtain CT, Angiogram and MRI. The research unit has
developed an electronic storage facility for such images to be sent to it by
e-mail or CD for permanent online storage. That information can be
readily made available electronically to other consultants upon
request. Many consultants now have the capability of reading these
piles with their PCs using such software as "eFilm" reader (http://www.efilm.ca)
- Expansion of Health Information web site to include detailed information
on new health technologies such as Deep Brain Implants, programmable shunts,
morphine pumps, etc...
Supporters:
We are grateful to The Emmanuel Charitable Foundation and its supporters for
funding our projects. We would also like to thank our CONSULTANTS
which
are made up of Neurosurgeons, Neurologists, Neuroradiologists and other
Neuroscientists for their support.
