Germinoma of Pineal Gland

Case 1

Age: 13

Sex: Male

History: Headaches for 1 month, vomitting for 3 weeks.


Examination:

Examination showed Bilateral papilloedema.


Pre-op X-Rays

Pre-op CT of brain without contrast (1995) showing a mass in the pineal region with hydrocephalus.


Pre-op CT of brain with contrast (1995) showing enhancement of the pineal region mass as well as a small mass at the foramen of Monroe.


Treatment:

VP shunt followed by steriotaxic excision biopsy of the foramen of Monroe lesion. Histology was consistent with GERMINOMA. He was treated with radiation.


Post-op X-Rays

CT of brain with contrast (1999) showing no evidence of tumor recurrence.
